About Fencepost
Fencepost is a free, 8-week structured reflection program for anyone trying to decide whether to have children, especially couples who aren't on the same page. Most resources on this decision are built for one person working it out alone. Fencepost is different: you and your partner each work through weekly exercises independently (naming fears, desires, imagining both futures in detail) and on certain exercises, the app shows you where you diverged, with prompts to actually talk about it. Some entries stay private forever, because there are things you need to think without your partner reading them. There's an optional AI reflection feature, powered by Claude, designed specifically not to push you toward an answer, it asks one open follow-up question, never gives advice, and is built to surface ambivalence rather than resolve it. It's not therapy, and it's not a yes-machine or a no-machine. Finishing with a clearer "no" is just as valid an outcome as a clearer "yes." It's free during a validation phase, no paywall, no upsell, just an email if you want updates. Built by a software engineer who spent years stuck on this exact question and couldn't find a tool built for two people instead of one.
