About Morndur - the Sunless Hold

Morndur is an async, collaborative dark-fantasy storytelling RPG set in the Sunless Hold — a drowned kingdom buried under the bones of mountains. It's interactive fiction you play one chapter at a time, together with everyone else reading it. The problem it solves: collaborative storytelling online usually asks too much or gives too little. Tabletop and play-by-post RPGs need accounts, schedules, a human game master, and a group that shows up at the same time. Most "interactive" fiction is solo and pre-branched — you only click options someone already wrote. And the rest of the internet is an infinite feed engineered to be faster and more disposable. There's no low-commitment way to step into one shared, evolving story, leave your mark, and return to find it changed. Morndur removes those barriers without flattening the experience: no account, no slot to claim, no schedule to keep, no group to coordinate. How it works: the world runs on a 24-hour cycle. At any point during the cycle, anyone can submit a move — and a move is anything you want to happen next: a new character walking through the Iron Maw, a betrayal, a battle, a quiet act of mercy, a turn no one saw coming. You aren't picking from options or describing only "your character" — you're proposing what happens. When the cycle closes at 20:00 CET, Morndur reads every submission — one voice or a thousand — and weaves them into a single canonical chapter, keeping the world consistent and the timeline honest. Then a new cycle opens. Whether 1 or 1,000 people played, the same rules apply, and no single player steers the ending. You don't find out how your move landed until the chapter drops, so the story genuinely surprises the people writing it. What makes it different: emergent, not branching — each chapter is authored fresh from real player input, never chosen from a pre-written tree. Truly async and low-friction — read once, play once, or come back every evening; no accounts, no paywalls, no ads. Slow on purpose — one chapter a day at a fixed time, an antidote to the infinite feed: you make one small move, then wait. One shared canon — every reader experiences the same evolving story, with per-chapter illustrations. Who it's for: readers and writers of interactive fiction and collaborative fiction; fans of dark fantasy and serialized stories; people who love RPGs and emergent narrative but don't want the scheduling and commitment of tabletop; anyone who'd rather make one meaningful move a day than scroll endlessly. The loop: write a move → the cycle closes at 20:00 CET → a new chapter is woven from everyone's voices → find your line inside it → come back tomorrow. Free to play at morndur.com.
