My AI coding agent can't say "done" until it passes this sleep-app checklist
I build Noctra solo in Flutter, with AI coding agents doing a lot of the typing. The problem: agents love to say "done" as soon as the code compiles. For a sleep app, "it compiles" means nothing. One audio glitch at 2 a.m. and the user is awake, annoyed, and deleting the app. So a change only counts as done after it passes this checklist on both an iOS Simulator and an Android Emulator: 1. Loops: no click, gap or volume jump when a sound restarts 2. Mixer: layered sounds play together at the right volumes 3. Lock screen & background: audio keeps going with the screen off or in another app 4. Timers & fades: the fade-out is gentle, and the audio really stops 5. Persistence: your mixes and settings survive an app restart 6. Navigation: nothing else broke along the way The loop test is the one nobody notices... until it fails. A tiny click on every loop is enough to keep a light sleeper awake. Builders using AI agents: what's on your "not done until..." list? Curious what checks other people force on their agents. Builders: 4 focus mixes for deep work (and a timer hack)
Most of us here ship at odd hours, in noisy places. So here are 4 mixes you can build in Noctra for work, not sleep: 1. Deep coding session Brown noise (main) + light rain (soft) Low rumble, nothing for your brain to latch onto. 2. Writing docs or copy Pink noise (soft) + forest (soft) Calm, but not sleepy. 3. Open office or café chatter White noise (main) + fan (soft) Bright noise blurs nearby voices. 4. Late-night bug hunt Ocean waves (main) + brown noise (soft) A slow rhythm that keeps you calm, even when the bug isn't. Timer hack: set the fade-out timer to 30 or 60 minutes. When the sound fades, that's your break. A focus timer with no ticking and no notifications. Room too loud to think? Tap Room Scan. It listens for a few seconds on your phone (nothing uploaded) and suggests a sound. No ads, works offline, keeps playing with the screen locked, so your phone can stay face-down. What do you listen to while shipping: lo-fi, silence, or noise? iPhone: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/noctra-sleep-white-noise/id6786351292 Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aiwhitenoise.noctra

Coming soon to Noctra: Cat Purr 🐈, Shower, Washing Machine, Blue Noise
4 new sounds are in the works for Noctra: 🐈 Cat Purr: slow, steady, weirdly calming 🚿 Shower: warm, textured white noise 🧺 Washing Machine: the low hum a lot of us grew up sleeping to 🔵 Blue Noise: brighter than white noise, for when white isn't crisp enough They'll mix with everything already in the app. Cat Purr + light rain is my pick. Help me pick the order: which one should ship first? The most-voted one in the comments goes out first. Still no ads. Still offline. Still cheap. iPhone: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/noctra-sleep-white-noise/id6786351292 Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aiwhitenoise.noctra

Why Noctra will never show ads (even though it's the easy money)
Ads are the default business model for free sleep apps. I get it. They pay. But think about when a sleep app actually gets opened: 1 a.m., lights off, finally winding down. That's the worst possible moment for a loud video ad. So I set 3 rules for Noctra: 1. No ads. Not in free, not in premium, not "one small banner". 2. Premium stays cheap on purpose, so paying never feels like a trap. 3. Room Scan runs on your phone. Your room audio is never uploaded. The trade-off: slower growth. Every user has to be earned the hard way. I'm OK with that. A sleep app should be the quietest thing on your phone. Builders: would you have made the same call, or is it naive? Honest takes welcome, I read every comment. If you like the no-ad approach, a follow or a quick rating here helps a solo dev a lot. iPhone: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/noctra-sleep-white-noise/id6786351292 Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aiwhitenoise.noctra

5 sleep mixes for 5 kinds of noisy nights (copy one tonight)
Most people pick a random sleep sound. The trick is to match the sound to the noise that keeps you awake. Here are 5 mixes you can build in Noctra in under a minute: 1. Noisy street / traffic Brown noise (main layer) + light rain (soft) Deep rumble covers engines and trucks. 2. Neighbors talking / TV through the wall White noise (main layer) + fan (soft) Bright noise masks voices best. 3. Partner snoring Fan (main layer) + brown noise (soft) Steady sound blurs the rhythm. 4. Deep focus / study session Pink noise (soft) + forest (soft) Calm background that doesn't pull attention. 5. Baby nap time Steady white noise + 30 or 60 min fade-out timer Keep it at low volume and away from the crib. Tip: keep every mix just loud enough to cover the noise, no louder. Not sure which one fits? Tap Room Scan. Noctra listens to your room for a few seconds, on your phone (nothing uploaded), and suggests a sound for you. No ads, works offline, keeps playing with the screen locked. Your turn: what's the noise that keeps YOU awake? Drop it below and I'll reply with a mix for it. iPhone: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/noctra-sleep-white-noise/id6786351292 Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aiwhitenoise.noctra

67 days, $0 ads, 0 reviews: an honest look at building Noctra solo
It's 1 a.m. The neighbor's TV is on. You open a sleep app... and get an ad. That's why I built Noctra, solo, in Flutter. Honest numbers after 67 days on PeerPush: - Read by AI every single day since launch - Top 10% of Mobile Apps by AI reads - $0 spent on ads - 0 reviews. That's the one I need help with :) What makes Noctra different: - Room Scan: listens to your room for a few seconds, on-device (nothing uploaded), and suggests the sound that best masks your noise - Zero ads. Not in free, not in premium - Premium priced low on purpose - Custom mixes, gentle fade-out timer, offline, plays with screen locked Coming next: Blue noise, Cat purr, Washing machine, Shower sounds. Question for you: what's the weirdest sound that helps you sleep? The most-requested one goes to the top of my build list. iPhone: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/noctra-sleep-white-noise/id6786351292 Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aiwhitenoise.noctra

White, pink or brown noise? How to pick the right sound for sleep
A quick guide from Noctra on choosing your noise color. White noise: bright and even, like TV static. Best at masking sharp sounds (voices, traffic, doors). Great for light sleepers in noisy apartments. Pink noise: softer, like steady rain. Less harsh than white noise, a good default if white feels too hissy. Brown noise: deep and rumbly, like a waterfall or strong wind. Many people find it the most relaxing for falling asleep and for focus. Tips: - Keep the volume low, just loud enough to cover background noise. - Mix layers: e.g. brown noise + light rain, or pink noise + fan. - Use a fade-out timer so the sound stops gently after you fall asleep. You can try all of these in Noctra: no ads, offline playback, custom mixes and a gentle sleep timer. Free to download, and premium stays intentionally cheap. iPhone: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/noctra-sleep-white-noise/id6786351292 Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aiwhitenoise.noctra Which one works best for you?
