About Otua

Otua turns live conversations into large, readable captions on your iPhone. Lay the phone flat on the table, tap Listen, and read what's being said as it unfolds — in text sized for comfortable reading at arm's length. Built by an indie developer for his hard-of-hearing wife, Otua is designed for real-world situations where hearing is hardest: noisy restaurants, group conversations, meetings, and travel. It's an accessibility tool first — adjustable caption size, full VoiceOver and Dynamic Type support, searchable history, inline correction, and a Live Activity in the Dynamic Island. Everything runs 100% on the device using iOS 26's on-device speech engine. No audio or transcript ever leaves your iPhone — no cloud, no account, no analytics. After a one-time language download, it even works offline. Otua is completely free: no ads, no in-app purchases. Available in English and French.

I built Otua for my wife, who's hard of hearing: live speech becomes large, readable captions. 100% on-device, no cloud, free. Feedback welcome — especially from the accessibility community 🙏
