Software hiring is broken. For over a hundred years, we have been able to approximate someone’s intelligence in under an hour with a simple IQ test. It’s not perfect, but it consistently correlates with competency, and many companies across different industries use it when evaluating candidates. So why can’t we do the same for software? Candidates spend hours on take-home assignments that slow down time-to-hire, lack standardization, and… invite cheating. OxApt is a 60-question, 20-minute rapid-fire assessment covering a wide variety of computer science and programming subjects. Applicants are more willing to take it immediately instead of waiting for the weekend — or dropping out of the process entirely. Companies get clear metrics showing where candidates stand compared to others applying for the same position across different companies. And the format itself discourages candidates from opening ChatGPT on their phones to get help.
