About Plantyd

A shrub that wants eight feet goes into a four-foot gap. A bed that looked sunny in May is in shade by July. Tomatoes go in three weeks too late to ripen. Most garden mistakes are made on planting day, and you find out a year later, a few hundred dollars in. Plantyd answers all three before you dig. It starts from a satellite view of your yard, kept to scale, so sizes are real instead of eyeballed. You plant from an extensive library of species, each one drawn at the size it will actually reach. Run the timeline out to years 1, 3, 5, 10, and 15 and you can see when a bed fills in and when it starts to crowd. It works out sun and shade including shadows from buildings and other plants, so "full sun or part shade" stops being a guess. Vegetable beds get sowing and harvest dates worked back from the frost dates at your nearest weather station, plus a warning when a crop will not ripen in time. You end up with a plan sheet with real measurements and a plant list you can take to the nursery. Anyone can design a garden that looks professional in year one and better every year after.

Planning from a to-scale satellite view with mature plant sizes tackles real garden mistakes before planting day. Clever concept.

Starting from a to-scale satellite view and modelling mature plant size is a great idea - the shrub-in-a-four-foot-gap problem is so real. Does it simulate seasonal shade too?
