The Story Behind StarFlicks As a huge movie fan, I used apps like CineTrak for years until they started imposing limits on lists. I also tried other popular trackers (TV Time, Letterboxd, Serializd), but for one reason or another, I couldn't find the perfect app for my needs. So, over the last year, I decided to build my own personal alternative from scratch and make it public and completely free for everyone. Key Features 🌍 Massive Catalog: Explore an endless library of Movies and TV Shows. 🔄 TV Time Import: Easily migrate all your TV Time history from the Settings. 📝 Unlimited Granular Tracking: Create endless Watchlists and track your exact progress down to single seasons and episodes. 🎬 Deep Details: View the cast, actor filmographies, plots, episodes, trailers, where to watch, and awards won (Oscars and Emmys). 🦸 Advanced Filters & Sorting: Filter by Genres and Universes (Marvel, DC, etc.), sort your lists, and easily separate Animation from live-action titles. 🏆 Global Top 50: Discover rankings based on the Global Community votes. ⭐ Personal Rankings: Your ratings automatically generate Personal Rankings (My Top) grouped by Sagas and Universes. 🛡️ Real Ratings: You can only rate a title after marking it as watched (for TV shows, you must have completed at least the first season) to prevent fake ratings. 🌐 Bilingual Support: Fully translated in English and Italian. Behind the Scenes As an indie developer, I built the entire architecture with the backend in Django (DRF), the web application in Next.js, and the native Android app using Expo (React Native). The whole infrastructure is containerized with Docker. StarFlicks is available on Web (Desktop), the Google Play Store (Android), and as a PWA designed for iOS users (offering the same layout and usability as the native app). Since this is a completely free, solo, non-profit project, I've decided to hold off on the subscription for the Apple Developer account for now.
