About IEP Desk

Navigating the special education system in the United States is one of the most complex and emotionally exhausting processes a parent can face. The laws are dense, the meetings are high-stakes, and the paperwork never stops. Most families go into IEP meetings unprepared, unsure of their rights, and without a clear picture of whether their child is actually making progress. IEP Desk was built to change that. IEP Desk is a bilingual (English and Spanish) web application and progressive web app designed specifically for parents of children with disabilities in the US. It gives families everything they need to understand, manage, and advocate within the special education system — all in one place, and in a language they actually understand. What parents can do with IEP Desk: IEP goals and progress tracking is at the core of the platform. Parents can log every goal from their child's IEP, track progress over time, and see at a glance whether the school is delivering what was agreed. Goals are organized by category, linked to specific services, and updated with each review period — so parents always have a clear, documented picture of where their child stands. The legal rights module translates the most important provisions of IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act into plain, accessible language. Parents learn what they are entitled to, what the school is required to provide, and what they can do when those obligations are not met — without needing a law degree or an attorney on speed dial. The communication log lets parents document every interaction with the school: emails, phone calls, meetings, verbal commitments, and follow-ups. In special education, documentation is power. Having a timestamped, organized record of every conversation protects parents during disputes and provides critical context at IEP meetings. Meeting preparation tools help parents show up ready. The platform includes guided checklists, question generators, and document organizers tailored to each type of meeting — eligibility, annual review, triennial, and more. Parents can prepare their concerns in writing, attach supporting documents, and walk into the meeting with a clear agenda. The document management module gives parents a secure place to store evaluations, assessments, prior written notices, IEPs, progress reports, and any other records related to their child's education. Everything organized, searchable, and accessible when it matters. The diary module allows parents to log day-to-day observations about their child's behavior, academic performance, and emotional wellbeing. These entries become evidence — a chronological record that can be referenced in meetings or used to support requests for additional evaluations or services. The advocate dashboard — a dedicated experience for special education professionals: With the launch of version 1.1, IEP Desk introduced a dedicated space for special education advocates. When a parent invites an advocate to collaborate, the advocate gains access to a personalized dashboard showing all their assigned families. From there they can view the modules the parent has chosen to share, follow the child's IEP plan and progress, review uploaded reports and evaluations with annotation tools, and communicate directly with the family through an integrated messaging system. The platform bridges both sides of the IEP table in a single, organized workspace. Bilingual by design, not by translation: IEP Desk was built from the ground up in both English and Spanish. This is not a machine-translated interface — it is a fully localized product designed to serve the growing population of Hispanic and Latino families navigating special education in the US, many of whom face additional barriers due to language and cultural differences with the school system. Every module, every rights explanation, every document template is available in both languages. Who IEP Desk is for: IEP Desk is for parents and caregivers of school-age children with disabilities in the United States — particularly those whose children have an IEP or 504 plan, or who suspect their child may need special education services. It is also designed to support the professional advocates, coaches, and consultants who work alongside these families. The platform is currently in beta, with a growing community of founding users helping shape its development. Access is available at app.iepdesk.com
