Dictation tools like Wispr Flow are powerful, but not everyone wants to pay $144/year to send their audio to the cloud! That’s why we built Onit Dictate. Onit is the 100% free and 100% local alternative to Wispr Flow, on MacOS (and soon iOS!) It’s the same concept: fast and accurate speech-to-text that goes beyond basic dictation by using custom-built models to polish your transcript into something ready to use. Most new dictation apps are the same: wrap an open-source model in a pretty interface and put it behind a paywall. Onit is different. We don’t think that tools like Wispr Flow earned their reputation from their transcription model alone. The real magic is the cleanup layer, the post-processing that turns a rough transcript into something you'd actually want to send. That's where we've focused our energy too. We’ve built small, fast models that run entirely on your device and handle the things open-source speech-to-text models get wrong: • Filler word removal — "I've been, uh, working on..." → "I've been working on..." • Number formatting — "three hundred forty six" → "346" • Email formatting — "tim three three at example site dot org" → [email protected] • Punctuation — "Hello exclamation mark" → "Hello!" • Lists, headings, and more How is Onit free? We do collect some usage data, but you can disable telemetry in settings. Most important: your voice and your transcripts never leave your computer. Do I need an account? No. We recommend users authenticate for the best experience, but you can use Onit without an account What languages does it work in?
