About reminal

An agent you kick off can chew on a task for an hour if you scope it right. The laptop it lives on is engineered to vanish the moment you close the lid. reminal is the home for that work. It keeps a MacBook awake and rendering with the lid shut, with no dummy HDMI plug and no dongle. When the Mac goes headless it spins up a virtual display in software, so GUI apps keep drawing and window mirroring keeps working. Toggle the mode off and everything is undone. Then it hands you the machine itself. Not just a shell, the actual windows. Every terminal and GUI window streams into any browser at 60fps with full keyboard and mouse input, so you can watch the terminal your agent is typing into, see the browser it is driving, and reach in to answer the permission prompt it is stuck on. From a phone, an iPad, a hotel laptop. Scan a QR code and you are in. There is nothing to install on the device you are holding. Your agents can reach each other, and you. reminal ships an MCP server, so an agent can list every session across every machine you own, search their live scrollback, read a session's terminal, and type into it. Agents on different machines, and from different vendors, can drive each other. There is no protocol to adopt: the bus is the terminal itself. If it runs in a terminal, it can be read and typed into. An agent can also pin a note on the window it is talking about, which reaches your phone and can be answered from there. Terminals persist like tmux, so closing the tab does not kill the work, and scrollback survives a restart. Sessions survive reconnects, and you can run several machines and switch between them from a dock. Hand a live session to a person or another agent as pasteable invite text with the install lines already in it. How it stays safe: - No open ports. Your machine dials out only, so there is nothing to scan. - End-to-end encrypted with a fresh key per run. The relay routes ciphertext it cannot read, and you can self-host that relay on Cloudflare's free tier. Relay defaults are configurable for forks and local builds. - Ephemeral credentials. Press Ctrl+C and they are gone. - No account and no telemetry. The privacy policy ships the grep commands so you can verify that claim against the source yourself. One Go binary, no runtime to install. macOS, Linux and Windows, with Windows builds Authenticode-signed. Free and open source under AGPL-3.0. A reminder app that stays quiet until the time is right is the kind I actually use. I would want a snooze that does not stack three alerts on the same task.

I kept closing the laptop on a running agent and coming back to a machine that had slept for an hour. reminal keeps it awake, rendering, and streaming to my phone. Ask me anything.
