About Weavestream

Free, open-source, self-hosted IT documentation for MSPs, IT teams, and homelabbers. Weavestream is a direct alternative to IT Glue and Hudu — the same structured, relationship-aware documentation model, but self-hosted, fully open source, and free of licensing checks, telemetry, and feature gates. Client environments generate a lot of knowledge: credentials, assets, network details, domain renewals, one-off procedures nobody remembers until 2am. Weavestream gives that knowledge a real home, connected the way it actually works — client → asset → credential → procedure — instead of scattered across spreadsheets, wikis, and sticky notes. Key Features • Client & asset management — Organize documentation by client, site, or environment. Track servers, network gear, workstations, applications, and vendors with a consistent, relationship-aware schema. • Credential vault — Encrypted password and secret storage scoped to the systems and clients that need it, with granular role-based visibility controls. • Domain & SSL monitoring — Automatic tracking of registrar, expiry, nameservers, DNS records (SPF, DMARC, DKIM, CAA, and more), and TLS certificate health, rolled up into a simple letter-grade score. • IPAM — Subnet and IP address tracking with conflict detection, so network documentation stays accurate as environments grow. • Knowledge base — Markdown-based procedures and runbooks linked directly to the assets and clients they describe. • Client portal — A scoped, read-only view for clients or junior staff, without exposing the full system. • Role-based access control (RBAC) — A flat, straightforward permissions model built to avoid the sprawling group hierarchies that make other platforms hard to manage. • Docker-first deployment — Runs anywhere Docker does: a VPS, a bare-metal box, or a homelab server. docker compose up -d and you're running. • AI-assisted documentation — Built-in LLM integration to help draft and refine knowledge base articles from raw notes or ticket history. What Makes It Different You own it, completely. Weavestream isn't a free tier of a paid product — it's AGPL-3.0 licensed, source available, and runs entirely on infrastructure you control. There's no license server, no phone-home telemetry, and no feature paywall gating the tools you actually need. Your data stays in a real database. Everything lives in PostgreSQL — not a proprietary export format you have to fight to get data out of. Backups, migrations, and integrations are yours to build without vendor permission. Built from the complaints, not just the feature list. Weavestream's design decisions come directly from documented pain points in IT Glue and Hudu — silent sync failures, duplicate records, permission systems that need a manual to administer, stale data nobody notices until it's wrong. Simplicity is a design principle, not a limitation. Every feature — permissions, integrations, UI — is evaluated against ongoing management overhead. If it makes the system harder to keep accurate over time, it doesn't ship as-is. No pricing tiers to navigate. One edition. Everything included, free. Real Outcomes You Can Expect • Stop paying a recurring SaaS bill for documentation you don't control. Run it on infrastructure you already manage, at the cost of hosting, not a per-technician subscription. • Find what you need in one hop, not five. Linked clients, assets, credentials, and procedures mean going from "which client is this" to "what's the admin password and how do I rebuild this box" without switching tools. • Catch domain and certificate problems before clients do. Automated DNS and SSL monitoring surfaces expiring certs and misconfigured records with a clear grade, instead of relying on memory. • Onboard new technicians faster. Consistent, linked documentation means new hires can trace an environment themselves instead of relying on tribal knowledge. • Documentation that stays accurate. A simpler permission model and integration framework mean less friction to keep records updated. • Full data portability, always. Everything sits in PostgreSQL with no proprietary lock-in — migrating or integrating is a technical task, not a vendor negotiation. Weavestream is actively developed in the open, with new integrations (Action1, NinjaOne) shipping regularly. It's a young project, built by someone who needed serious IT documentation and got tired of renting it — expect fast iteration and direct engagement with feedback over a polished sales pitch.
