Inspiration Discord servers break in the same way every time: a spam wave floods #general, a raid hits at 3 AM, or a compromised account starts deleting channels. New members join, scroll into the mess, and leave. Most owners end up running two or three bots just to handle spam, raids, and logs. We built BetterAntispam to fix that. One bot. One setup. Real protection before new members see yesterday's damage. What it does BetterAntispam is a free Discord moderation and security bot that helps server owners: Stop spam — duplicate messages, mention spam, invite spam, emoji floods, and malicious content Stop raids — join pattern analysis, suspicious account scoring, automatic lockdown Stop nukes — mass bans, channel deletion, role abuse, and permission grabs Verify members — button, CAPTCHA, math, word puzzle, and web verification Filter threats — scam links, NSFW images, and selfbot detection Recover fast — /nuke and auto-nuke for channel cleanup, /unnuke for server recovery Staff get logging, cases, warnings, appeals, quarantine, raid mode, and 40+ slash commands. Core protection is free (only 4 commands require premium). How we built it BetterAntispam is built on Node.js and discord.js v14, with SQLite for fast per-guild configuration and moderation data. The bot uses Discord slash commands and interactive panels so server owners can configure anti-spam, anti-raid, anti-nuke, and verification without writing code. Key technical pieces: Event-driven handlers for message spam, join raids, and permission abuse Modular command architecture (/setup, /settings, /find, and per-feature settings panels) Persistent guild settings via better-sqlite3 Real-time punishment flows (warn, mute, kick, quarantine, ban) with audit logging Recovery tooling for post-incident cleanup and rollback We designed the onboarding flow around a guided /setup wizard so a new server can go from invite to protected in under 5 minutes. What we learned Speed matters. Spam deletes need to happen in milliseconds, not seconds. False positives kill trust. Punishment rules need to be tunable per server. Recovery is as important as prevention. Owners care as much about /unnuke and lockdown tools as they do about blocking spam. One bot beats three. Server owners do not want separate dashboards for spam, raids, and logs.
