About Grove

Grove is an AI-native macOS script runner designed to unify your terminal experience with your AI coding agent. It allows both you and your agent to control the same terminal processes, streamlining development workflows. Upon connecting a folder, Grove automatically sets up a menu bar, CLI, and a built-in MCP server to manage real terminal processes. You can start, inspect, and stop these processes seamlessly. Unified Terminal Control: You and your AI agent share control over the same terminal processes, ensuring consistency and reducing conflicts. Automatic Project Discovery: Grove intelligently scans your project, identifying supported manifests across various ecosystems (package.json, deno.json, pyproject.toml, Cargo.toml, go.mod, Makefile, etc.) without requiring new configuration files or manual lists. Visualized Stack Execution: Monitor up to four live terminals simultaneously, with logs maintaining their color, ports becoming clickable links, and failures clearly displayed until acknowledged. Intelligent Log Summarization: When a script fails, Grove uses Apple's on-device AI model to summarize the log, removing sensitive information like tokens or passwords before processing. This happens entirely on your device, with no log uploads. Seamless Agent Integration: Your AI agent can initiate and control Grove applications through a local Unix socket, appearing in the menu bar with shared logs, port information, and stop controls. Real Terminal Behavior: Grove runs scripts in pseudo-terminals, ensuring that colors, progress bars, prompts, and signals function as they would in a standard shell. Process Group Management: Stopping a script also stops its child processes, preventing abandoned servers or lingering ports. Preserved Shell Environment: Grove reuses your interactive shell, ensuring version managers work correctly without adding startup time to script runs. Grove offers a one-time purchase of $5, with no subscription or renewal fees. A 3-day free trial is available upon download, requiring no card or account setup. The license includes the app, CLI, MCP server, and automatic updates for up to 3 of your Macs.

Keeping the agent and my own commands in one terminal session is a genuinely useful idea, and the one-time price is refreshing.

The shared process view and stopping child processes address two practical sources of confusion. Can an agent be limited to inspecting status and logs, with starting or stopping processes kept under separate approval?

@GeneralManager_Getatext Yes, you can mention that in your AGENTS.md or CLAUDE.md

GeneralManager_Getatext

@itsrakesh Thanks. Just to clarify: is that a policy the agent is instructed to follow, or can Grove technically reject start/stop requests in a read-only mode?

A shared terminal for me and an agent makes a lot of sense, the copy-paste between chat and shell gets old. One-time pricing is a nice touch too.
