About PocketBill
PocketBill started with a painful spreadsheet. A subscription audit found $247/month going to services I could name maybe half of — the classic subscription amnesia problem. Signup is one tap, cancellation is a maze, and each charge is small enough that your brain files it under noise. The existing solutions wanted my bank credentials via aggregation access. I wasn't willing to trade one privacy problem (forgotten subscriptions) for a bigger one (full financial API access). So the design constraints became: local-first (data lives on the phone), no account required, and every smart feature runs on-device. Receipt OCR uses ML Kit on Android — the photo is parsed and deleted in the same session, never uploaded. Renewal reminders are local notifications, not server pushes. The item-value tracking started as a bonus: log purchases with prices, apply category-based depreciation, and watch a net-worth timeline that includes physical things. Turns out knowing that $400 gadget is worth $160 eighteen months later changes buying behavior. Built independently over several months, with a WCAG contrast engineering pass, unit tests on the money math (rounding is hard), and Playwright E2E probes. Free core; Pro unlocks cloud sync, OCR, calendar view, and all themes.
